Taste of Chicago

Going to the Taste of Chicago or just the Taste on July 3 was always our tradition as kids with our Dad to watch the fireworks display. We would take the Blue line to the Loop and be those crowds of people walking to the lakefront and trying to find a spot. We really didn't eat the food at the taste bc my dad's reason for going there was for the fireworks. I just have to share one not so good memory, but it's the one story my dad always tells when we talk about the Taste. It was the same routine of getting ready this year, I was probably 14 years old and my dad, Ang and Chi were getting excited. We made it down to the city, found a spot, then suddenly Chi and I got caught and lost in the moving crowd and were separated from my dad and Ang for the rest of evening. Chi and I walked to the CPD tent and on our way there we found family friends who we grabbed onto and took us back to the Rosemont station and waited with us at our van; 20 minutes later my Dad is running to us and was so glad to see us. Mind you, this was before everyone had a cell phone, so that evening felt like an eternity. Will never forget that night. Fast forward to now, it's now my friends and I enjoying the Taste. It's usually around Mae's bday, so we make a day out of it. Some of the booths we go back to are Harold's Chicken....best fried chicken eva! and with the wing sauce is just so tasty; Robinson's Ribwich; O'Brien's roasted sweet corn and most importantly RAINBOW CONE! Tried a new booth, Xocatl's churros. YUM.
